Havivah Ner-David got Smicha!!

Read story here.

Since my Aunt Enid (z"l) gave me her book Life on the Fringes on the eve of my bat mitzvah, I've been a devoted follower of her spiritual journey and struggles (and just not b/c my name is Chavivah too).

she did it, damit.

best quote ever:

"[I am] part of an emerging and growing post-denominational community of serious, struggling, committed Jews who are less interested in fitting in and more interested in finding an intellectually and spiritually honest path to God by listening to the rainbow of voices that can be heard through constant interpretation and reinterpretation of our traditional texts and rituals."

Ner-David's not the first woman to receive smicha; i think the impact will be when/if she becomes the first woman to act and lead as a rabbi within largely orthodox-identified circles.
Any idea if she was the first to receive "toreh, toreh" smicha or if others did before her?
